Mykonos (NC-17 rating)

July 29, 2012

Everyone warned us that Mykonos was a party town and all there was to do was party and holy smokes were they dead on!  As far as I can tell your options in Mykonos are to relax by the water, shop, eat or PARTY.  So of course Jill and I decided when in Rome . . .

First day in Mykonos - eat - check.

First day in Mykonos - enjoy the view and relax - check.

First day in Mykonos - enjoy the water - check.

Day two in Mykonos proved to be more of the same, except we cruised the island in style ... scooter style that is.
Still relaxing!

The parking lot ouside the beach club Tropicana in Paradise Beach.

Travel Channel says this is the 2nd best beach club in the world.

If you can't beat them - join them!

Except this guy!  Do not join this guy!

Giant Mojito.  All this and it's only 7 pm!!!!!

Thank God we are still alive on this death trap!  Try going up the hills with 50 cc of fury, wind gusts that have more power than the scooter, and 100s of crazy Europeans on scooters navigating curvy, pot hole riddled roads!
Day three - enjoy the view - check.

Day three - shop - check.

Day three - eat - check.
Day three - relax - check.

My new love: Santorini

June 27, 2012

I love Santorini!!!!  Santorini = scooters, beaches, wineries, sunsets and fresh tomatoes!

Jill and I in our rental bubble . . . the Smart Car! Watch out Mario Kart!
The view from the top of Pyrgos, a cute town we stumbled upon while driving around.

The town of Pyrgos - just what I picture when I think about Greece.

The new and improved view!

Wine tasting at Gaia, an award winning winery on the island.  Not only did they have great wines but they were right on the beach!

 A view of Oia.

 Getting lost walking around Oia.

Who needs Crossfit when you can just walk around Oia?

Getting ready for the famed sunset - they say Oia is the best spot on the island to watch the sunset.

 The famed sunset!

Why doesn't Livermore have an open air cinema???

Scuba Diving inside the caldera - or inside the volcano that has now blown it's top off.

Jill and I hike up the active volcano Nea Kameni. We could see smoke rising out of the ground from inside one of the craters.
 Hot springs! Thank you volcano!

Island hopping - that's the island of Thirassia.

And that's the view from the top.  That's right I walked from that bottom town up the donkey trail.  Not the best idea I have ever had.

Jill and I on a sunset boat cruise.

Another famed sunet of Santorini - from the boat this time.

Check out my white eggplants!  A local speciality!

Rockin' it in Rhodes

July 24, 2012

Living in the medieval town of Rhodes for three nights was incredible.  And now I know why all the streets are paved with pebbles . . .  it feels like a foot massage while walking.  The town was scenic, the beaches better and a trip to the local water park crazy!!!  We made it to Santorini at 2 a.m. last night on our ferry to start checking out the famed sunsets of the island.

The hydrofoil ferry we took from Bodrum to Rhodes . . . faster than Grease Lightening!

Outside the Old Town of Rodos.

Jill and I and 100 pounds of luggage making our way into the inner city.

Our awesome hotel the Pink Elephant.

Jill and I inside the Alm's House in the Old Town.

 I feel like Robin Hood!

 See . . . a built in foot massage!

Looking inside Old Town from one of the many gates.

Best Beach Ever!!! Lindos - a quick bus trip away.

Our vacation from our vacation - the waterpark!

 The MOAT!

We arrived in Fira, Santorini and hopped on some hot wheels as soon as we could . . .

...and headed over to Kamari for some beaching.

Why aren't there wandering massage therapists in Livermore???

 The first sunset of Santorini.

Just rubbing it in now suckas!

 Ahhh . . .

It's even pretty when it's dark out!

Check out my olive oil based hazlenut gelato!!!  (At the best rated gelatoria in Santorini!)
