Today was an unexpected and wonderful day - starting with my first ever ride on a bullet train. Thrilling indeed, even though I was fairly preoccupied journaling. Peter and I decided to take another day trip out of Tokyo to the quaint town of Obuse, on the advice of my friend and because Peter`s boss`s sister is head honcho at a big time Sake Brewery there. We showed up not knowing what to expect but was delighted by the generosity of Sarah Cummings (head honcho of Masuichi) who showed us around her brewery, Masuichi`s different venues from restaurants to hotels and the town itself, which she has literally revived! (Apparently she is quite the celebrity in Japan and you can Google stalk her for more fun facts if you want.) We had a vegan homemade meal for lunch at her house with her family and still managed to visit a few temples, try hazelnuts (which the town is famous for) and even sample her sake! All before our train back to Tokyo and for our farewell dinner with Sarah.
Peter and I at Masuichi sake tasting. Square One sake - the best hands down!
One of the many gardens in Obuse. There are over 100 local families who allow visitors into their hobby gardens around town.
Hokusai painting from the Hokusai Museum in Obuse. Fastest museum tour ever as Peter and I a train to catch . . . which we did by the hair on our chinnie chin chins. Well that and a mad dash through town.
In order: me, Spice the dog, Sarah, William, Joe and Peter.
A view of the Masuichi Brewery and all it`s extra ventures.
Ohh . . . the bullet train.
